AQUINO, ROXAS KEEP LEADS IN PRE-ELECTION SURVEY

PULSE ASIA POLLS SHOW NOY-MAR CONTINUE TO BE NO. 1

Liberal Party standard bearers Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino and Manuel “Mar” Roxas remain the top contenders in the May 10 presidential and vice presidential race, respectively, according to the latest Pulse Asia pre-election survey.

In the Pulse Asia survey for the month of February, Aquino led over closest rival Nacionalista Party Manuel Villar with a percentage rating of 36%, compared to the latter’s 29% rating. If all of the more than 50 million registered voters would vote, Aquino would win by a margin of 3.5 million votes based on the Pulse Asia survey.

In the vice presidential race, Roxas lorded it over Loren Legarda, with a 43% rating, which is 16% higher than the latter’s 27% rating. This would be equivalent to 8 million vote leads for Roxas if the more than 50 million registered voters would all vote during the May 10 elections, the highest lead that any candidate could get over his rivals in the country’s electoral history.

The survey was conducted among 1,800 respondents during the period February 21 to 25. It has a plus/minus 2 error of margin.

In the presidential race, former President Joseph Estrada came in third with 18%, followed by former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro with 7%, religious leader Bro. Eddie Villanueva with 2% and Sen. Richard Gordon, 1%.

On the other hand, the vice presidential pre-election survey showed Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay coming third with 15%, followed by former MMDA chief Bayani Fernando with 4% and Edu Manzano, 2%.

Aquino and Roxas have consistently topped pre-election voters’ preferences surveys conducted by the country’s top polling companies.

Roxas has maintained a two-digit lead over his rival vice presidential contenders in all recent surveys, a strong indication of how voters would pick the country’s second highest elective official in this year’s national elections.
